Lisa Lee Kacalieff, R.I.P.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Lisa Lee Kacalieff (January 19, 1960 - April 3, 2007) who died this morning from unknown causes. Lisa and I had been dating since Saint Valentine's Day 2004. She had suffered from Type I diabetes for 40 years, along with many other chronic health conditions. She has required constant care for the past year, and declined sharply in the past month.

Lisa is the daughter of Harriet Kacalieff and the late Christ Kacalieff of Saint Louis, and leaves behind brothers John and James. She came into the Church two years ago, and was a frequent recipient of the Sacraments.

She was a graduate of Mary Institute and Southern Methodist University, where she studied psychology and art. Until illness deprived her of freedom of mobility, she was active in charities and in the counseling of teenagers and battered women. Lisa was a prolific artist, who designed clothing, jewelry, and "wearable art", and especially liked to paint and draw colorful pictures of flowers and hearts. She was also noted for her skills in calligraphy. She was the owner of seven cats, several of whom have been featured here. Always sociable and loving people, Lisa would talk to everyone she would meet and had an address book overflowing with friends and acquaintances.

Lisa was one of the kindest and most loving people I've ever met. Her final months were most difficult for her emotionally, because she no longer could give, but instead was unwillingly dependent on others.

May she rest in peace.

  5. Mark, that was a beautiful statement on Lisa. You were always there for her. I know there will be a void in your life for awhile, but I am sure you will continue on with the blessings from God.
