Saint Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - exterior at sunset

Saint Vincent de Paul Church, in Saint Louis, Missouri, dates from 1844 and was one of the first parish churches in the city. The church was founded by, and is still administered by the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians.

  1. Actually, I don't think this photo is all that good, either. If I were to do it right, I'd put in some extra lighting on the front of the church, using a flash or two.

  2. Thanks for this new post on this church. I have often wondered about its status so close to the highway....I thought perhaps it was closed. It is interesting how close the main and side alters look like those of St. Joseph Parish in Bonne Terre.

  3. I took this photo with my back up against the retaining wall of the highway. Originally, this church was to be demolished to make way for the road, but instead Interstate 55 was finally built with a slight curve here, avoiding the church. Just north of here, Saint Mary of Victories church also abuts the highway.

  4. Mark thanks for the post yes I think that Victories is the church that I was thinking of. It is beautiful on the inside glad to read that it was spared from the wrecking ball! Just so I am positive is Victories East of 55 just before the 70 bridge?

  5. That's it. It was also built in 1844.
