"Priest, photographer illuminate St. Louis churches, history"

FROM THE St. Louis Review, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis:
As a convert to Catholicism, Abeln said “one of several factors that led to my conversion was the beauty of the faith — the traditional liturgies and the music.

“In terms of art and architecture, Catholic churches especially have the best art of any institution,” he added.

Abeln noted that it was difficult to narrow down what churches to feature in the book, but he said that his choices were based primarily on whether they were photogenic and easy to compose.

“Some churches, with the plantings and trees, are almost impossible to get that exterior shot,” he said.
