Today the film "300", about the Battle of Thermopylæ, premiers. Although it is a terrific subject — 300 Spartan warriors with 700 allies fight against the million-man army of the Persian Empire in a heroic last stand — this new film is highly unrealistic, R-rated, and is most likely morally offensive.
You may want to check out instead the 1962 film, "300 Spartans". It is preachy about Greek nationalism and democracy, but tells well the tale of courage against overwhelming odds.
I have not yet seen 300, but I do own the film "300 Spartans", and highly recommend it to all.
