Darkness Covers the Earth

LAST NIGHT, following the Mass of the Lord's Supper at the Cathedral Basilica, was Tenebrae for Good Friday. This Office of Darkness was chanted by a seminarian choir. It was unforgettable.

The text of the Office is here, with chant settings by Fr. Samuel F. Weber, O.S.B., of the Institute of Sacred Music of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.

  1. It was so obvious that Fr. Weber has done a lot of work with the seminarians. They sounded like the Benedictines at St. Meinrad's Abbey. They sounded good last year, but even better last night.

    A blessed Triduum to you.

    In the peace of Christ,

  2. I love the Cathedral's Tenebrae service. But even more beautiful, in my opinion, is Tenebrae at the Abbey (St. Anselm), chanted by our local Benedictines at 8:00 p.m. on Good Friday...tonight.
