Return of the SSPX?

The SSPX was founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. He was opposed to many of the reforms after the Second Vatican Council, and was declared excommunicated in 1988 when he ordained bishops without the approval of the Pope. Legally, the SSPX is not a schismatic Church, although some of its members may be; there is a wide variety of opinions in this group.

The group is against the Modernistic tendencies in theology and liturgy in the Catholic Church, especially those driven by the philosophy of subjectivism.

There is a push to regularize the SSPX, from both within the organization and from the Church as a whole, as well as opposition to this. Modernists in the Church oppose this, for the SSPX opposes their agenda, while some in the SSPX think that Rome is heretical and that Benedict XVI is an invalid Pope. However, some see that the SSPX—even in its irregular state—is more faithful to the Church than even many regular diocesan Bishops and religious orders.

I am one of those who agrees with your closing statement.

  2. I agree, even though I assist at the Indult here rather than the S.S.P.X Chapel. I would also contest the statement that some members of the Society believe our Most Holy Lord Benedict to be an "invalid Pope." The Society has thrown out many Priests over the years for expressing that belief - it has always taken a pretty hardline stance against sedevacantism.
